Phantasma Phoenix: The Game-Changing Blockchain for Web3 Gaming

Phantasma first burst on to the crypto scene back in 2018 with its mainnet L1 launching in 2019.  Promising to make web3, with its unique technology built in C#, a thriving ecosystem for gaming and entertainment.

Ecosystem Growth Begins

            Pavillion Hub by GOATi Entertainment, a gaming hub (“Steam” for blockchain games) was launched bringing web3 gaming to the masses with a seamless experience for all gamers.  Ghostmarket cross chain marketplace also plugged into Phantasma offering users the ability to easily mint Phantasma’s Smart Digital Asset technology.   

Phantasma achieved significant heights in 2021 with a thriving and dedicated community, Hollywood arrives with Semkhor partnering with Kevin Smith for an NFT campaign surrounding the movie launch of Clerks III, from the Jay & Silent Bob fame which Phantasma was included in the story.  The world’s first Carbon Credit NFT (CCNFT) by  Save Planet Earth  was launched on Phantasma leveraging the chain’s Smart Digital Asset technology and supported Phantasma in achieving a carbon negative status.

Darkest of Days

In 2022, to protect token holders, the chain was grinded to a halt due to exploits through cross-chain contracts.  This was a significant impact for token holders and developers building on the chain.  For 10 months the chain remained idle as the development team pursued fixes for the exploits, upgrades to the chain and achieve a successful Hacken audit.  This was a significant achievement for the team, fighting back for a path forward to bring the ecosystem back to life. 

For the next year, Phantasma began to gain some if its momentum back again and then the unthinkable happened.  The Phantasma chain was exploited by its original founder, minting unauthorized tokens which were quickly contained and once again the chain was idled.  A postmortem was done regarding the founder’s actions and a detailed report was presented to the community.  With the founder banished from the project, Phantasma Phoenix was born.

Guardians of the Chain

GOATi Entertainment is an established gaming studio with over 100 years of combined games experience across intellectual properties such as Star Wars, Transformers, Test Drive, Far Car, Lotus Challenge and Automobilista 2 to name a few, receiving attention from META and established partnerships with Intel and AMD.  In early 2024, GOATi made the decision to embrace Phantasma as the new guardians of the chain, believing in the technology and the mission to bring web3 gaming to the masses.  With already having significant experience working with the chain, GOATi had a vision of how Phantasma should have been right from the start since inception.  GOATi’s experienced team of developers began their work on the Phoenix upgrade. 

Throughout 2024, the team focused on 3 primary goals: security, stability, and scalability.  Implementing measures to ensure no one person had the ability to damage the chain again, reduce bloat and redundancy of the chain, pursue transaction speeds that weren’t just theoretical but actual speeds comparable to the best of the best chains.  Additionally, Phantasma Phoenix boasts yet to be announced what can be considered blockchain 4.0 tech.  This effort is currently underway and is running is a closed testing environment in parallel with the gradual launching of Wonderman, GOATi’s flagship game.  The Phantasma Phoenix testnet is expected to go live shortly and then a full launch in 2025.

Delivering the Message

Phantasma Phoenix Ecosystem Continues to Grow
