Nintendo has officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2, its next-gen hybrid console, during the April 4 Nintendo Direct livestream. Pre-orders begin April 9, 2025, with the base model priced at $449.99 and a Mario Kart World bundle available for $499.99.
The Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch HDR10 display with 1920×1080 resolution, 120 FPS, and VRR support, powered by a custom NVIDIA processor. It includes 256GB of storage, supports microSD Express cards up to 2TB, and introduces redesigned Joy-Cons with mouse functionality, improved ergonomics, and magnetic connections.
New additions include GameChat, Nintendo’s voice/video communication tool, a built-in camera, and a noise-canceling microphone. The battery lasts 2–6.5 hours per charge, and the system charges in about 3 hours.
Analysts predict that Switch 2 could have the biggest console launch in history, with 6–8 million units ready for day one. Over 15 new titles are confirmed for 2025, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion, with more coming in 2026.
With the original Switch having sold over 150 million units, the bar is set high—but Switch 2 looks ready to leap over it.
