Sony’s Ethereum layer 2 blockchain, Soneium, has rapidly gained traction in the DeFi space, reaching $45 million in total value locked (TVL). Developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs in collaboration with Startale, Soneium has processed over 45 million transactions and engaged 15 million active users since its launch in January.
While Sony has explored blockchain in gaming, the company has not confirmed any plans to integrate Soneium with PlayStation. However, the network hosts a growing number of blockchain games, such as Derby Race and OverTrip, operating as an open platform for developers.
Soneium’s growth is driven by its thriving decentralized exchanges (DEXs), including Kyo Finance, Sonex, and Velodrome. On Sunday alone, the platform recorded 258,000 active wallets and over 2 million transactions, reinforcing its expanding role in Ethereum’s layer 2 ecosystem.
With increasing adoption and liquidity, Soneium is poised to become a key player in the web3 finance sector, attracting more projects and developers in the coming months.
